Glenn Truman Howell

Glenn Truman Howell, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Glenn was born at home in Seaboard, North Carolina to Rufus Butler Howell, Sr. and Carrie Belle Long.

Glenn proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict before returning home to build a life centered on family, faith, and service to others. He spent more than three decades working as a television repairman, then transitioning to custodial work at the Triad Methodist Home and then his own church, Mineral Springs Baptist. He was known for his integrity, quiet leadership, and unwavering love and commitment to God, others, and family. Glenn was an avid gardener, growing an acre garden which he shared with family, neighbors, church members, and friends. He enjoyed fishing and kept a record of how many fish he had caught for at least 40 years!

Above all else, Glenn was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He taught his children the importance of hard work, responsibility, and treating others with respect. His grandchild will remember him for his kindness, caring, wisdom, and desire to make everyone feel valued. His loving wife of 70 years, Eloise Shelton Howell, followed him in death on October 9, 2026. He is survived by his children, Sharon (Bill) Welsch and Chris (Wendi) Howell who lovingly called him “Daddy”; and one grandchild, Melody (Jason) Tucker who lovingly knew him as “Granddaddy.” Both Glenn and Eloise were deeply loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew them.

A joint celebration of life service will be held for Glenn and Eloise on Friday, October 16 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Lewisville. A graveside service will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: The Lord’s Harvest, 911 Bailey St, Mars Hill, NC 28754, a ministry with whom Glenn and Eloise volunteered for over 10 years.
