Glynn “Curly” Livingston Powell III, 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Kernersville Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County on February 11, 1958, to the late Glynn Powell Jr. and Dorothy Boles Powell. He was a graduate of East Forsyth High School, class of 1976. Curly will be remembered for his competitive nature and kind spirit. He was involved in a bowling league and managed to score an almost perfect 299. In addition to this, Curly was an avid golfer and took pleasure in playing softball for his company team. He was diligent in his workplace and spent 40 years employed at Johnson Controls as a material handler and forklift operator. Coworkers acknowledge Curly’s willingness to be a team player and would not think twice about carrying an extra workload to help someone who was a bit behind. More than anything, his son, Travis, was the apple of his eye and Curly was so incredibly proud of him. He was always there to support Travis through his sporting endeavors and was his biggest cheerleader during swim meets. He will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving son, Travis Powell; four siblings, Pam Cook Driver, Gail Brewer (Don), Mike Powell (Jan), Donna Wood (Steve); eight nieces and nephews, George Cook, Amanda Vogler, Chris Gibby, Jaime Powell, Jennifer Freeman, Kristen Everhart, and Alex Wood; as well as other extended family members and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Mark Leone officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. For those who would like to donate to a cause in Curly’s memory, donations may be made to Starfish Swim Team at 832 Dodson Mill Rd, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
