Gordon G. McCoy, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a long battle with Melanoma. He was born March 31, 1941 in Ashe County. Mr. McCoy retired from the City of Winston-Salem. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Jean; his mother, Isabel McCoy of Ashe County; two sisters, Betty Canada of Lewisville and Billie Carter of Ft. Worth, Texas; two daughters, Whitley Austin of Cary and Christy McCoy of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Gordon and Mary-Preston Austin of Cary; and a son-in-law, Joe Austin of Cary. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, December 12 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 13 at Calvary Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to The Prayer Quilt Ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, 5000 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff in the bone marrow unit at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
