Winston-Salem – Mr. Grady Amos Smith, 92, went to be with his Savior on March 9, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on July 4, 1926 in Forsyth County, he was the son of Amos “Gilmer” Smith and Eva McGee Smith. Mr. Smith was retired from Bahnson Company as a Supervisor with 45 years of service. Grady loved fishing with his buddies at Salem Lake and at the coast. He was a lifelong member of Oaklawn Baptist Church which his father and grandfather helped to build. In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by his brother, Edgar “Russel” Smith (wife, Geraldine); and his sister, Biona S. Long. He leaves behind a niece, Gayle S. Clodfelter (husband, Denny) of Kernersville; nephews, Larry R. Smith (wife, Cheryl Hoots) of East Bend, Kent Long of Pfafftown, and Brent Long (wife, Martha) of Clemmons; two great nephews, Travis Smith (wife, Susanna) of East Bend, and Turner Smith (wife, Hailey) of Lewisville; five great great nephews, Allissa Smith, Elora Smith, Kian Smith, Lucas Smith, Jack Michael Smith; and a special brother-in-law, C.T. Long, of Oldtown. A Graveside Service for Grady will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jim Saul officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in Grady’s name to Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or a charity of the donor’s choosing. The family would like to thank Kerner Ridge Assisted Living, his adopted family, for all the love and care they gave to Grady, including his friends and family.
