Mrs. Gwendolyn Burnette Mitchell Leonard, 85, passed away at her home on October 9, 2018 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on September 12, 1933 to Blanche Oakes Mitchell and Vecue Kiser Mitchell in Rural Hall. Gwendolyn was a lifetime member of Brooks Temple United Methodist Church. She attended school in Forsyth and Davidson County. Having started working at an early age, she was employed by Parker Miller Jeweler for 40 years. Gwendolyn was organized and independent. She took delight in her yard, flowers and watching the birds. She was a great cook and enjoyed caring for her family, even in her final days. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Jesse Leonard, Granddaughter Ashley and Great-Granddaughter Jazmyne. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her 3 devoted daughters Shirley  (Paul) Phillips of East Bend,  Debbie (Bobby) McClain of Winston Salem, and Lorraine Tuttle of Winston Salem; 2 devoted sons Claude (Claydes) Leonard of Wadesboro and Barry (Sheila) Leonard of Kings Mountain; 11 devoted Grandchildren Richard (Kim) Leonard, Lisa Leonard, Corey (Lawanda) Tuttle, Latasha Tuttle, Brian (Shanipa) Tuttle, Brandon Leonard, Preston Leonard, Marque (Tracy) Kearns, Alex (Baria) Jordan, LaKeisha (Jeff) Childress, Keandra (Curtis) Smith, her new Grandson Anthony Baxter and Loving Grandson Eddie Quintanilla; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 4 loving sisters Emily (Coleman) Rader, Cody Phillips, Ellen (William) Hairston and Mary Joyner; 4 loving brothers Ray Mitchell, Jerry (Catherine) Mitchell, Vecue Mitchell and Christopher (Claire) Kimbrough. A very special and devoted Sister-in-law Lena Mae Leonard of Winston Salem, a very special and devoted friend Adlaid Talbert of Winston Salem, very special and devoted friend Sylvia Mitchell, and a host of loving, extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday October 17, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Reverend Dr. Nathan Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Brooks Temple United Methodist church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
