Hugh Richard McMordie

Hugh “Richard” McMordie, 82, passed away at his home on March 2, 2024. Richard was born to Catherine Bell McMordie and Francis McMordie on January 28, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA. He proudly served as an air policeman in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was also a longtime member of the Masons. 

Richard was in failing health following two strokes over the past three years. However, while his health permitted, he was an avid RV’er even after driving big trucks over much of the country. His interests included a love of trains (real and model), music (He enjoyed playing the piano and accordion), and dancing.

Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Francis McMordie. Surviving is his loving wife, Bonnie Britt McMordie; step daughters, Sylvia “Meta” Britt of Advance, and Sharon Ann Britt of Winston-Salem; four step grandchildren; five surviving great grandchildren; siblings, James Robert McMordie and wife, Rebecca; and Gordene McMordie Singleton of New Bern.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Woodland Cemetery with Dr. Virgil Dwyer officiating.
