Hagan Robert McClellan, Sr.

Hagan Robert McClellan, Sr., age 85, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his devoted family. He was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, on November 22, 1939, to the late John Connard and Glenna Shelton McClellan. His life story included proud Semper Fi service in the United States Marine Corps. With his winsome personality, he was successful in the insurance industry for a time, but his life’s work was to the high calling of serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; pastoring for over 56 years in dozens of churches throughout East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina. His commitment to the Gospel led many to Christ and influenced dozens into fulltime ministry. 

For him, to live was Christ, to die was gain. Preceding him in death were his grandson, Harrison Vaughan; brother, Johnny McClellan; and a sister, Freddie Chandler. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Norma Repass McClellan; three sons, Rob McClellan (Joette), Jeff McClellan (Amy), and Joe McClellan; daughter, Holly Vaughan (Erik); ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sandra McClellan; and several nieces and nephews. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC, with Pastor Richard Hardee and Pastor Donnie Humphrey officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Harrison Vaughan Memorial High School Scholarship at Calvary Day School, 134 S. Peace Haven Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is assisting the family.
