Harley Grey Cromer

Harley Grey Cromer, 89, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017. He was born August 4, 1927 in Stokes county to the late Robert and Martha Cromer. He was a faithful member of Waughtown Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Cromer served in the U.S. Army. He worked several years with Duplan Corporation, but eventually retired from the City of Winston-Salem where he once held the position of Concessions Manager. He spent his retirement years assisting others, traveling, woodworking, and as a volunteer with the Meals-on-Wheels program. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Atkinson Cromer; siblings, Vila Monroe, Cleo Fowler, Elmo Cromer, Romeo Cromer, and Madelyn Collins. Harley is survived by his daughter, LuAnn Kayler and son-in-law, Allen Kayler of Winston-Salem, son, Dennis Grey Cromer of Charlotte, and sister, Margie Durham of King. He is also survived by two grandchildren; Heather Purgason and Amanda Baysden (Dave Baysden), as well as great-grandchildren; Carly Purgason, Macie Baysden, Preston Baysden, along with several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Waughtown Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Brackett officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter - Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Office, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Trinity Elms Assisted Living, or Waughtown Baptist Church.
