Harold Dean Lanning passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. He was born on December 5, 1936 in High Point, NC to William Sherman Lanning and Clydie Lee Young Lanning. He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 50 years, Jean White Lanning. Harold is survived by his two daughters, Laurie Lanning Renner of Winston-Salem and Mindy Lanning Mock and husband, David, of Lewisville; his grandchildren, Matthew Alexander Renner, Malinda Mock Ford and her husband, Mark, and Ashley Elizabeth Mock; and his great-granddaughter, Emma Lilly Ford. For the past three years he was reunited with his high school sweetheart, Alice Davis Weaver of Lexington, NC. Harold was a graphics designer at AT&T in Winston-Salem for 34 years, and in the 1960s he also served in the Air Force Reserves as Airman First Class. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. For many years he served as a Sunday school teacher and Elder at Pfafftown Christian Church. He also was an avid reader and self-taught scholar of religion and science. In his younger years he was an ardent tennis player, and in his later years developed a passion for nature photography and hiking. His memorial service will be Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel led by his dearest friend, Dr. Tom Everton, of Asheville.
