Harold Loyd Nifong

Mr. Harold Loyd Nifong, 77, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at his home. Mr. Nifong was born on February 14, 1937 in Davidson County, NC to Russell Daniel Nifong, Sr. and Mattie Ratledge Nifong. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Harold enjoyed playing golf at both Hillcrest Golf Club and Wilshire Golf Course. In his later years, he played more gin rummy than golf at Wilshire and Hillcrest with his buddies. ""Nappy"" as he was known at Wilshire and Hillcrest will be missed by all of his friends at the golf clubs. Mr. Nifong was preceded in death along with his parents by his wife, Geraldine ""Beanie"" Nifong; son, Timothy Gray Nifong; daughter, Myra Nifong Thomason; and a sister, Fairene N. Fox. Mr. Nifong is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Summer (Steve) of Winston-Salem; a son-in-law, Gray Thomason of Lexington, NC; four grandchildren, Rebecca Lucas (Brian), Brian Summer, Jake Thomason, and Hannah Fox (Nate); three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell D. Nifong, Jr. (Nancy) and Arthur Nifong; two sisters, Lois Nifong and Thelma Leonard; and his girlfriend, Betty McAlpin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Paul Titus officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. There will be a private entombment service at a later date.
