WINSTON-SALEM-Mr. Harold Adrian Stewart, 82, formerly of Beech Mountain, NC, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 6, 2014. A loving Christian husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and always being there for his family, friends, neighbors wherever and whenever there was a need. He enjoyed serving his church as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. Born in Anderson, SC on December 23, 1931, he was a true American hero, serving 23 years in the United States Army, including one tour of duty in North Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Pepperdine University and worked for the state of South Carolina and then the city of Columbia, SC. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Stewart, mother, Lois Stewart; brothers, Haskell Stewart and Doyle Stewart. Mr. Stewart is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 62 years, Betty Stewart; daughters, Carol Kay, Barbara Carter (Michael); son, David Stewart (Lillie Ann); grandchildren, T. Kevin Philpot (Laurie), Kimberly Minnick (Brandon), Samantha Stewart, and Adam Stewart (Cara); great-grandchildren, Cadence Philpot and Noah Philpot; and a sister, Lavinia Whitfield (Wilton). A memorial service will be held at a later date in Banner Elk, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
