Harvey Linville Slater, Sr

Mr. Harvey Linville Slater, Sr. 75, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016. He was born in Davie County on January 25, 1941 to Marvin and Alice McKnight Slater. He was employed at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for over 10 years. Mr. Slater was a taxidermist from 1968 to the present. He loved to hunt, fish, and the beach. One of his favorite past times was relaxing at Oak Island. He was well liked in the community and never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Slater was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Lee Slater, Bill Slater, Henry ""Tootie"" Slater, Hubert Slater, Jimmy Slater, and sisters Rosa May Livengood and Estelle Adams. Surviving are his wife Doris Lambeth Slater of the home, his children Harvey Slater, Jr. of Wallburg, Betty Slater Blankenship of Advance, and Bobbie Slater Beard of Winston-Salem, four grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren, brothers Frank Slater of Lewisville, Lee Slater of Mooresville, and Terry Slater of Mocksville, a sister Janie Willard of Winston-Salem, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Winston-Salem Moose Lodge #466. A reception will follow immediately following the service.
