Hassel Worth Boles, 88, passed away on November 2, 2015 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center after several months of declining health. He was born in Forysth County on September 10, 1927 to Hallie Darnell and John McKinley Boles, both deceased. Also preceding him in death were his wife of 64 years, Mildred Foushee Boles, and an older brother, James Bronson Boles. He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Vicki Lynn Boles, and his constant canine companion, Milli.
Mr. Boles graduated from Mineral Springs High School at the age of 16 and went to work at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. two weeks later. He worked in various plants during his career and retired as Chief Repairman, Whitaker Park facility, in 1983 after 39 years of service. Following retirement, he became interested in clocks and taught himself how to repair them, which resulted in a steady flow of customers needed his services. He was also a previous member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and worked with that group on several repair projects for historical clocks within the state.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Reverend Glyn Steward will preside over the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forsyth County Humane Society, 61 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or Senior Services (Meals on Wheels), 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
