Hattie "Jeanette" Luck Newman

Kernersville – Hattie Luck Newman (“Jeanette” to her family and friends) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on March 11, 1935, in Draper (Eden), NC to James Bryant Luck and Mattie Handy Luck.

Jeanette married Drewey Ray Newman in 1950, who served the US Army as a Sargent in the Korean War. Jeanette worked at Western Electric most of her career until retiring in 1991. She was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where she followed, studied, and prayed to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under the leadership of Pastors Brooks Hunt, Paul Dean, Steve Roberson. She had many beloved friends and family too numerous to count.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her loving husband, Drewey in 2007; two sisters, Clara Hicks and Margaret Webb; and a brother, Harold Luck. 

Left to celebrate the life and legacy of this most extraordinary woman are her three sons, Ronald Ray Newman (wife, Kathy) of Belews Creek, NC, Gary “Butch” Lynn Newman (wife, Cindy) of Inverness, FL, and George Bryant Newman (wife, Lori) of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A graveside service for Jeanette will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in the Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC at 3330 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
