Haywood Eugene Whisenhunt

Mr. Haywood Eugene Whisenhunt, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away on March 1, 2017 at Arbor Acres. He was born on April 24, 1922 in Forsyth County to Maney and Myrtle Hawks Whisenhunt. Haywood was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for many years. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in the Pacific Theater in WWII. He retired from Hanes Knit Wear with 42 long years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing golf. But, most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great, great grandfather. In addition to his parents, Haywood was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene C. Whisenhunt; daughter, Carolyn; two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Ms. Linda Reed of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Sherry Scales (Dennis) of Kernersville; two grandsons, David Younts (Tracey) of Bonneau, SC, and Calvin Younts (Patsy) of Mocksville; two great grandchildren, Nathan Scales (Allison) of Conway, SC, and Megan Yokeley (Lee) of Kernersville; as well as a great, great grandchild, Camden Yokeley of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating.
