Mrs. Helen Groce, went home to be with her Lord on January 2, 2016. She was born in Forsyth Co. on July 27, 1923 the daughter of the late Tom and Maude Hicks. Helen gave her life serving others at Woodland Baptist Church, alongside of her husband, Zeno Groce, who was the pastor for 46 years. She served as teacher of the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class at the church for over 50 years. Helen loved to sing and served as assistant choir director for the church for many years. She was a true lady, and her passion was sharing Christ with all those she met. In addition to her parents Helen was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, Zeno; her son, Danny; and three brothers: Ronald, Leroy and Archie. She is survived by her sons; Mike (Brenda) of Newton, NC and Joel (Donna) of Angier, NC, a daughter-in-law Pam Groce of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, three grandchildren: Michele Gibson (Gregg) of Maiden, Brian Groce (Gwen) of Campobello, SC and Amber Swagger (Joe) of Lillington, NC and 8 great-grandchildren: Kayla, Michael, Kari, Braedon, Kohlten, Clayton, Ashlinn and Mallory. She is also survived by a brother, Olan Hicks (Aileen) of King, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Helen's two sons and Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. There will also be an informal visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, The Gideons or Hospice and Palliative Care.
