Mr. Henry Lester Bennett, 93, of Walkertown, NC, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Henry was born on September 20, 1923 in Forsyth County to Lee and Ida Bennett. He was a master mechanic and retired as the owner and operator of Walkertown Service Center. He was also an electrician, a brick layer, and a great carpenter. Henry was a lifelong member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved music and loved to sing in the choir. Henry was a great cook for his family as well as for the army where he personally served food to Dinah Shore and General Patton. He served in the army with General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia ""Ruth"" Moore Bennett; his granddaughter, Martha Ellen Bennett; five sisters; and two brothers. He is survived by two sons, Gary Bennett (Sheila) and Ronald Bennett (Johnita); one daughter, Pamela Barton (Jim); grandchildren, Shannon Bennett, LeeAnn Fields (Jason), Jill Martin (Todd), John Bennett (Ashley), Brian Barton, and Danny Barton, Unity Duke, and Ally Sink (Wes); and six great grandchildren, Jake and Belle Martin, Jack and Gray Bennett, and Desi and Jalee Fields. A funeral service for Henry will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 28, 2016, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be to the Morris Chapel Methodist Church Building Fund.
