Henry Foy “Hank” Woodall, 77, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Hank was born on October 10, 1947 in Raleigh, NC to Basil T. Woodall, Jr. and Nora Foy Woodall. He was a 1976 graduate of Wake Forest University where he earned his BS in Business. He worked for 25 years in the textile industry and was an entrepreneur who owned and operated three successful businesses. He was a member and deacon of Westview Baptist Church (now The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem.)
Hank was an avid Wake Forest fan and loved going to basketball and football games to cheer on his beloved team (GO DEACS!) He enjoyed bass fishing and taking his boat out for early morning fishing trips to High Rock and Badin Lake to fish with his sons, Jeff and Joe. Most of all, he loved being with his family and his three grandchildren were the apples of his eye. He was always doing special things with them, whether it was playing games, crafts and drawing, building Legos or carving pumpkins for each of them yearly. Papa always made things exciting.
Hank met the love of his life, Gaye Nell Bates, in 1964 and they were married in 1968. For 56 beautiful years, they created and shared wonderful memories including special trips to Cherokee, the beach, Dollywood and enjoyed a lot of fun times watching and feeding snacks to the neighborhood birds and squirrels.
Hank was preceded in death by both his parents and older brother, Larry T. Woodall.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Gaye Nell Bates Woodall; two sons, Jeffrey Foy Woodall (Krissy) and Joseph Samuel Woodall (Amy); three grandchildren, Nora Pearl, Carter Samuel and Conor Joseph Woodall. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces and their families, Wesley T. Woodall, Kimberly Woodall Bauer, Amy B. Woodall, Basil T. “Woody” Woodall III, and Emily Woodall Estrada; his sister-in-law, Paula C. Woodall; and many loving cousins including Mary Marinda Clark and her daughter, Christy Clark.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Dr. Joe Long officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Trellis Supportive Care for the loving care they showed to Hank.
Flowers will be graciously accepted, or memorial donations can be made to Trellis Supportive Care, www.trellissupport.org or The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem, www.shepherdscenter.org.
