Mr. Henry "Ray" Phillips, 99, passed away August 29, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
A native of the Orwood community near Oxford, MS, Ray was the son of Cadmus Spears Phillips and Thelma Mae Moore Phillips. In addition to his parents and his wife of 69 years Gladys Combs Phillips, he was preceded in passing by his brothers John Lester Phillips, Samual Alford Phillips, and Richard Spears Phillips, Grandson-in-law Joey Lydon.
He was a WWII veteran serving in France and Italy. After returning from service, he started his career in the real estate appraisal business for over 50 years. Henry worked in numerous states before settling in Winston-Salem. He began working for Forsyth County in 1973 until he retired in 1997. Henry was an avid golfer; he enjoyed his retirement years playing many different golf courses and maintaining his yard with pride and especially enjoying time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, John Phillips (Tina) of Clemmons, NC, George Phillips, Paul Phillips (Colleen) all of Winston-Salem, NC, daughter Phyllis Bauguess (Mike) of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren Allan Phillips (Erika), Kris Phillips (Nicky), Chris Williams (Erica), April Kaylor (Jason), Brandy Lydon, Travis Bauguess (Caroline), Patrick Phillips, Taylor Godfrey (Josh), Ashton Phillips (Mallory), sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek Chapel on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5:00pm ~ 7:00pm. There will be a private family interment at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
