Henry "Hank" Norman

Mr. Henry Sylvester Norman, 94, of Winston-Salem, better known as Hank, left his earthly body and heard his Savior say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant” on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.  Hank was born on May 10, 1924 to William and Hattie Norman.  A lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, Hank was a retired employee of Piedmont Airlines.  He enjoyed working as a mechanic on the airplanes, which was a result of his training in the Army Air Force.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Lori Lee Landreth, Model Beauchamp, Alda Gordon, Dorothy Landreth, his brothers: Bill and Charlie, first wife, Marjorie, and second wife, Vernette.  He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mae Norman, son, Russell Norman, stepson, Johnny Rumley (Carolyn), stepdaughter, Sherry Warren, grandchildren, Cori (Steve), Andrea (Allen), Brooke (Tyler), Chase, Nikki (Joey), April and six great-grandchildren.

A loving husband, son, brother, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather, Hank was truly a wonderful Southern gentleman.  Although he was a very quiet soul with a kind heart, he was loved and respected by many.   He was a great “fix-it” man who loved to try unique innovations.  He and Mae loved to travel, visiting different countries and many places in the U.S.  Sharing memories of these trips brought both of them much pleasure in later years.  Hank was a member of Konnoak Hills UMC, the United Methodist Men, receiving a lifetime membership award, the chicken pie workers at Konnoak, Piedmont Retiree Club, and until recent years, produced a large garden, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

A memorial service to celebrate Hank’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2018, at Konnoak Hill’s UMC, with visitation to follow the service.  Rev. Chris Smith will conduct the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made in his honor to Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church, 430 Weisner Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
