Herbert Eugene Boyd, Jr

On March 11, 2025, Herbert Eugene Boyd, Jr. passed away of natural causes. Herb lived heartily on this earth for 88 years. He was born to Herbert Eugene Boyd, Sr. and Artis Kidd Boyd in Asheville, NC. Following his service in the US Navy, Herb enjoyed a rewarding career as a computer scientist with IBM and USAir among others. He played banjo in bluegrass bands and trombone in the Moravian band. He was a craftsman who built several boats, a hang glider, and a log cabin. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed canoeing, hiking, sailing and flying. Herb demonstrated a spirit of curiosity, daring, and adventure in all he set out to do. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Weston Boyd; his two children, Russell Boyd and Lynn Boyd; stepchildren, Linda Harring and husband, Eric; Valerie Kaby and husband, Conor; Robert Ross and wife, Katherine; grandchildren, Meredith and Lindsay Arcure and their father, Tom Arcure; Sofia Lima and Yuli Lima; brother, Charles Boyd and wife, Elaine.
