Hoover Gray Speas

Mr. Hoover Gray Speas, 89, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017. He was born in Forsyth County to the late Ethel Scott Speas and Harvey Alexander Speas, Sr. Mr. Speas retired from Sara Lee Corp. with 42 years of service. He was a faithful member of Jefferson Church of Christ, where he served as Elder and Deacon for 42 years. Mr. Speas enjoyed basketball, softball, golf, fishing, and woodworking. He loved his church and his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Speas was preceded in death by his brother, H. A. Speas, Jr. and his sister, Ernestine Cummings. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Booze Speas; two daughters, Judy Simms (David) and Teresa Speas; two sons, Mark Speas and Tim Speas (Kim); five grandchildren: Ricky Mosley, Abbie Lakins, Dana Speas, Aaron Speas, and Dakota Speas; and three great-grandchildren: Lauren, Tyler, and Jackson. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Jefferson Christian Church with Ministers Steve Cook and Glenn Van Meter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the burial.
