Horace E. "Hawk" Harrelson

Horace E. “Hawk” Harrelson, 80, of Rural Hall, North Carolina, passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., following a heart attack and kidney failure.

Mr. Harrelson was born in Marion County, South Carolina, to the late John Houston and Dorothy S. Harrelson of Mullins, South Carolina.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim W. Harrelson, of Rural Hall. The couple would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on November 18, 2025. He is also survived by two sisters, Esterlene Claud (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC, and Linda Johnson (Jules) of Shelby, NC; one brother, Larry Harrelson (Ceal) of Raleigh, NC; six brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and one deceased sister-in-law on his wife’s side; his children, Clay Young, Sr., and Jessica Kirby-Brooks; and his beloved grandchildren, Clay Young, Jr. and Georgia Brooks, whom he loved more than life itself. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Travis Harrelson; sister, Elisabeth “Lib” H. Flowers of Lakeview, SC; and nephew, Joe Flowers of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Hawk enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a professional driver. He worked for Spevco in Pfafftown, NC, where he drove specialty vehicles for clients including Sony, Winston Cup/NASCAR, and NHRA Drag Racing. In 1997, he joined Brewco Company in Kentucky, working on the NASCAR circuit with General Motors/Chevrolet until his retirement in 2013. Even after retiring, Hawk continued doing what he loved, driving part-time with Salem Carriers until his passing.

A devoted sportsman, Hawk was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing courses throughout Rural Hall and the surrounding areas. He was also a passionate pool player and a familiar face at Ol’ Nick’s, where he shared many good times and lasting friendships with too many friends to name. Nearly every morning, Hawk could be found sharing breakfast with his close friends Steve and Bubba—usually at PB Clark’s—a daily ritual that brought him great joy and laughter.

He will be remembered for his easygoing nature, his dedication to his work, his faith, and the countless friendships he made throughout his life.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral or viewing service.
