KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Howard P. ""Billy"" Idol, 90, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his home. Billy was born on March 8, 1924 in Guilford County to Burley F. and Louvinia Sarah Smith Idol. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. Billy was a WWII veteran of the US Army specializing in Army Communications. His electrical experience in the Army led him to a electrician career with Pike Electric for over 50 years before retiring.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy ""Dot"" McNeill Idol; three brothers, Jack, Buck and Estil Idol; and three sisters, Iris Alley, Ruby Knight and Dot Teague.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Idol of Colfax, Karen Lefever and husband, Randy and Sharon Parks and husband, Greg all of Kernersville; six grandchildren, Ryan and Bryan Rice, Casey and Joshua Lefever, and Hannah and Katie Parks; two brothers, Garnet ""Boots"" and Coy ""Cricket"" Idol; and two sisters Laura Musten and Corena Lako.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Kernersville with Dr. Stephen Martin and Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
