Hoyt H. Hughes, 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House.
Hoyt was born on August 9, 1938 in Andrews, NC to Olen H. Hughes and Mary W. Bettis. He graduated from Andrews High School. After high school, he moved to Winston-Salem where he went to work as a meat cutter. He continued this profession for most of his life, mastering his craft and retiring from Food Lion after over 50 years of service.
Hoyt loved to play bingo and loved the outdoors, especially the mountains and the beach. He was a great man who valued and loved his family above all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shirley Hughes; and two brothers, Dennis and Bert Hughes.
Surviving family includes, his wife of 57 years, Nancy Mae Williams Hughes; two children, Joseph David Hughes, Sr. and Rebecca Boyles (Mark); three grandchildren, Joseph David Hughes, Jr., Katie Boyles Mann (Jason), and Hailey Boyles Fuller (Travis); two great-grandchildren, Paige and Peyton Mann; two sisters, Jane Hughes Holland and Ruby Hughes Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private at the request of the family and will be held at a later date.
