Heaven gained a saint Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 with the passing of Hugh Walter Phillips, Jr. at Kernersville Medical Center. Hugh, known as ""Honey"" to family was born in Union, South Carolina on December 27, 1923 to Allie Sue Byars Phillips and Hugh W. Phillips, Sr. He was a member of Konnoak Baptist Church and was retired from Pilot Freight Carriers, Inc. He was a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite where he served faithfully as Secretary. Mr. Phillips was also a member of the Winston-Salem Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed being with his family and going out to eat. He loved the Lord, his church, and his family. Mr. Phillips lived his faith every day and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 years, Kathryn; a baby granddaughter; one brother, James Byars. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Lynch and husband Frank; granddaughter, Erin McGinn and husband Chris; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Bullock and Tre' Bullock. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August, 15, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. John Bishop Officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
