Hugh Brinkley West

Mr. Hugh Brinkley West, 51, of Winston-Salem, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his home. He was born March 3, 1962 in Forsyth County to Carol Brinkley West and Edwin Arthur West, Jr. Hugh graduated from Reynolds High School in 1981 and then went on to graduate from Forsyth Technical Community College with a certificate in welding and Guilford Technical Community College with an Associate's Degree in Graphic Arts. Hugh was employed for 19 years as a graphic designer with West Design Graphics, a division of Protégé Staffing. Mr. West was a loving father, grandfather, brother and son who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed nature hiking, camping and going to Atlantic Beach with his family every year. Hugh also enjoyed animals, Pop Warner Football and playing his drums and harmonica with his son, Nolan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sallie ""Gina"" Virginia West. Surviving are his two children, Anna Chapel West and Nolan Hugh West; one grandson, Cameron Messick; his parents, Ed and Carol West; one brother, Edwin A. West, III (Gina); a nephew, Brian West; a niece, Sallie West; a former wife and friend, Julia Haddock Nofsinger; beloved friend, Jeanne Ritter and many relatives and friends. He had such a big heart and never met a stranger. All who knew him will surely miss him and his big smile and great sense of humor. He was such a devoted dad and loved his children more than anything. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Highland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Randy Harris officiating. There is no stated visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church, 2380 Cloverdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
