Mrs. Ila ""Mae"" Gentry Hooker, 94, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Mrs. Hooker was born April 7, 1919 in Yadkin County to the late Carl Gray Gentry, Sr. and Lora Pardue Gentry. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church, and the Rachel Sunday School Class. Mae loved gardening, cooking and helping others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Ray Hooker, four sisters, Pauline Gentry Harper, Mozelle Gentry Helton, Helen Gentry Bell, Gaynell Gentry, a brother, Paul Gentry, and a step-son, Douglas Ray Hooker. Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughter; Scarlett Lakey of Clemmons, a grandson, Josh Stokes, and two great-grandsons; Nathan and Jonah Stokes, a brother, Carl Gentry, Jr. of Yadkinville, a niece, Pat Harper of Winston-Salem, a daughter in law, Linda Hooker of Kernersville, two cousins; Mary Lee McMeans and Rebecca Coffee and her beloved cat,"" Benson"". The family will receive friends Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 6-8:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, March 9 in the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by Rev. Andy Lambert. Burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall, NC.
