Irene Covington

Kernersville - Phoebe Irene Covington, 90, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at Trinity Glen Nursing Home. Irene was born March 28, 1927 in Stanley County to Bruce and Judie Caudle Covington. Irene was a graduate of the Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and also from Meredith College. She spent her life in Religious Education, working mostly with young children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville and served as a Deaconess for a number of years. Irene was a very generous person who loved people, her family, neighbors and friends. She shared her love for others by doing a lot of volunteer work - one of her favorites being the Ronald McDonald House.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Covington; a brother-in-law, John Ruff; and a sister-in-law, Donna Covington.
Surviving are two brothers, David Covington, and Neil Covington; a sister, Joyce Ruff; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Kernersville. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Rourk Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe.
The family would like to extend a special thanks for all those who cared for her at Kerner Ridge, along with her fellow church members who were so faithful in helping her.
