Mrs. Irene Motsinger Cranfill, 98, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Irene was born October 15, 1919, in Winston-Salem to Arthur Carlton and Laura Antoinette Shultz Motsinger. In addition to rearing her family, she worked at Wake Forest University managing the Deacon Shop for 26 years. She was highly regarded by staff, students and parents and received many accolades and notes of appreciation for assistance and guidance. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending quality time with her family and friends. Irene was a long term member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church, where she was extremely active. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Women's Society, belonged to several church circles and clubs, served as communion steward and volunteered weekly preparing the church bulletins. She will be remembered for her class, her love of life, her welcoming spirit and gentle demeanor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 55 years, William Thomas Cranfill, Sr.; three brothers, William Motsinger, Clarence Motsinger and AC Motsinger, Jr.; one sister, Elsie Young; and one son-in-law, Jack Armstrong. She is survived by two sons, William Cranfill, Jr. and Robert (Rosa) Cranfill; one daughter, Lynn Armstrong; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Monday November 13, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev.Gary Mahathey officiating. In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Springs United Methodist Church, 2569 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
