Irene Elizabeth Pruitt Shields

Mrs. Irene Pruitt Shields, 94, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at the residence of her son. She was born on November 20, 1930, in Stokes County, the daughter of Nathaniel and Minnie Bullins Pruitt. A member of Smith Grove Baptist Church and had later worked in the school cafeteria, she enjoyed needlework, traveling cross country and her church family. Irene was a Godly Mother who loved her family, especially her kids and her great grandkids. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phillip “Wade” Shields; a daughter, Donna Kay Shields; a sister, Mazie Matthews, and a brother Lewis “Jack” Pruitt. Survivors include her two children, Phillip Shields (Gwyn) of High Point and Doug Shields (Judy) of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Matthews, Nicholas, Kristin, Hannah and Dustin; eight great grandchildren, Emily, Macie, Grayson, Carter, Summer, Callie, Lainie and Dakota; three sisters, Oma Pitts of Colfax, Leona Cox of Rockingham County and Lula Mae Bullins of Stoneville and a brother, Terry Pruitt of Walkertown. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Freeman and Rev. Charles Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
