Mrs. Irene Wooten Hussey, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Irene was born in Yadkin County to the late Luther and Sarah Wooten on October 15, 1924. She was married for 62 years to J.B. Hussey, who preceded her in death in 2008. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse Wooten, Jay Wooten, and Clarence Wooten; three sisters, Lela Westmoreland, Ruth Settle, and Minnie Adams. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Stewart and Brenda (Jack Stephen) Guthrie; three grandchildren, Jonathan Stewart, Lorri Guthrie, and Daniel (Mary) Guthrie; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are three brothers, Phillip (Joan) Wooten, Jimmy (Lula Mae) Wooten, and Howard Wooten; and two sisters, Dorothy (Alan) Eldreth and Mildred (Bill) Musten. During WWII, Irene served her nation working in Baltimore, Maryland in aircraft production. Irene worked for R.J. Reynolds in quality control as an inspector for 32 years. She was a member of Pfafftown Christian Church Disciples of Christ since 1947. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Pfafftown Christian Church Disciples of Christ with Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at Forest Heights Senior Living Community for their love and excellent care of Irene for the past seven years. The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to Elizabeth Kiser, and Janette Stoneman for their friendship and kindness to Irene.
