Iris Josephine Tolley McCoy of Lexington, VA, passed away September 24, 2016. She was born to the late Elbert Lee and Mary Ethel Bryan Tolley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, John Walkup McCoy, who was also from Lexington.
Survivors include her daughters Cheryl McCoy Greene (Loyde Isom) of Kernersville, NC and Lynne McCoy (Terry Dickinson) of Fort. Collins, CO; Her grandchildren Bryan Greene (Christa) and Kathryn (John) Breeden; Six great grandchildren, Parker, Emma, Cooper, Noah, Madison, and Wesley; Her nephew, Kent (Bobbi) Stevens; and two nieces, Sandra Hoover and Nina (Jack) Whitmore).
Iris was a graduate of the College of William and Mary. She was active in her local Phi Mu chapter into her eighties. She skipped the eighth grade and was a spelling bee champion while in the Rockbridge County schools and at her nursing home facility. She was an active member at Fairlington United Methodist Church in Alexandria for over fifty years. She was a Campfire Girl leader for her daughters' troops. She organized her women's club luncheons and other outings. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and socializing with friends and neighbors.
A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2016, at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
