Mrs. Iris Shore Burns Westmoreland, 80, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015. She was born August 9, 1935 in Forsyth County to Wiley Thomas Shore and Ila Reid Shore. She attended Old Town Elementary School where she played varsity basketball, which was her great love until she met her husband, James Wallace Burns, who preceded her death, along with siblings, Ellen Frances Franklin, W.T. Shore, John Henry Shore, Calvin Shore, and Eloise Shore, as well her husband Richard Westmoreland. Iris loved to visit California to see her granddaughter and to ride in the hills and smell the flowers. She loved her Lord and Savior and rejoiced each time she sang.
Iris is survived by her three children Cecilia Burns Cook (Freddie), Patricia Burns Hester (Michael Floyd), and Thomas Williams Burns; one grandchild, Amanda Nicole Cook; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Kevin Cline (Dawn), Colin Franklin, Debbie Franklin, Joseph Shore (Jay), Susan Williamson (Ronnie), and David Shore (Donna); one sister Vallie Shore Cline; one sister-in-law Jewell Shore.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. and Rev. Dan K. Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. the family will receive friend thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
