Mr. Jack Alan Hershel, 78, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026, at his residence. He was born on September 21, 1948, in San Francisco, CA, to the late Mr. Harry Heshel and Mrs. Elizabeth Felzer Hershel.

Mr. Hershel retired from the United States Air Force after 24 years of faithful service, including service during the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of Maple Springs UMC, where he was actively involved in church activities and groups. Jack also volunteered at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for many years. He never met a stranger and was always happy to share a story. On Sundays, you could often find him cheering on his beloved 49ers.

Above all, Jack was strong in his faith and loved his family and friends deeply. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his loving memory are his wife, D’Ann Hershel, of the home; a brother, Ronald S. Hershel, of Corvallis, OR; a sister-in-law, Lynn Bailey, of Winston-Salem, NC; and his three cousins, Jeanine, Susan and Adrienne.

There will be a memorial service held at Maple Springs United Methodist Church, final details are forthcoming. A private family interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Air Force Enlisted Village at www.afev.us/donate; or the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Burn Center, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157; or to Maple Springs United Methodist Church at www.maplesprings.org/donations.
