Jackie Eugene “Jack” Tolley, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at home, in his own bed beside the love of his life, exactly as he wished. He was born in Forsyth County on November 30, 1949, the son of the late John Leonard Tolley and Anna Isabel Bracken Tolley. Surrounded by the comfort of home and family, he left this world the same way he lived in it — quietly and with dignity. He lived a life defined by devotion to his family, faith, hard work, and quiet generosity. A lifelong resident of the community, he attended North Forsyth High School where he played football, baseball, and basketball. After high school, he began a long and dedicated career with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he worked for 35 years. He shared a remarkable 55-year marriage with his beloved wife, his middle school sweetheart. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and community. Earlier in life, he enjoyed camping and fishing with family members. During their children’s younger years he coached their Little League teams, investing his time with his family and creating memories that lasted a lifetime. A man of deep faith, he faithfully served his church, Poplar Springs Christian Church, as a deacon and had served at a previous church as an elder. Even when his health began to decline, he remained a dedicated member and served on committees until he was no longer physically able. He was known for his love of the outdoors. He especially loved going and picnicking in the mountains. He purchased an old farm where he built a home for his family — a place where he could sit on the porch and see the mountains nearby each day. He found joy in gardening, riding his tractor, and working outside on the land during beautiful days. After retiring from RJ Reynolds, he stayed active by driving a dump truck — something he did simply because he enjoyed it. He loved simple pleasures, including watching The Andy Griffith Show, and he was never one to turn away anyone in need. If someone needed help, he quietly found a way to lend a hand. When grandchildren came along, he became one of their biggest supporters. He rarely missed a game, performance, or recital, always showing up with pride and encouragement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Gail Tolley. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Vickie Tolley; two children, Angela Tolley Watson (David) and Andrew Tolley; three grandchildren, Jacob Watson, Caleb Watson and Hannah Watson; a grand dog, Willie Dre’ “Wilbur”; and his three siblings, Frankie Reavis, Avery Tolley (Pat) and Jerry Tolley. Jack is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Steve Younger, Sharon Adams (Jack), Jack Younger (Karen), Kathy Donathan (Tommy) and Barbara Martin (Mike); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to CenterWell Home Health and Mountain Valley Hospice for their love, support, and exceptional care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Poplar Springs Christian Church in King with Pastor Griffin Gilstrap and Pastor Chuck Bower officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Poplar Springs Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or Poplar Springs Christian Church.
