James Billy Autry

James Billy Autry, “Bill”, 90 years old, of Winston-Salem, NC, died Thursday, September 5th, 2024. 

He was born in Cameron, NC, in 1933 to Verlie Belle Simpson Autry and George Bidwell Autry. Bill attended school in Lee County and then joined the Army. He served at Fort Richardson, Alaska, and ended his service in 1958 with Alaska Maneuvers, Operation Cold Bay. He retired from Autry Brothers Construction and was a dedicated and hardworking man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors. 

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Marsh Autry; his children Mitchell Grey Autry (Tamra), Jerry Lynn Autry (Pam) and Tonya Autry Brooks; his 4 grandchildren, Susan (Eric), Josh, Taylor, Dylan; 3 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Gage, Soren; and his sister, Janelle Howington. 

Services will be held at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024. The visitation will be at 1 pm and chapel services will follow at 2 pm. Graveside services will be at Gardens of Memory, 5676 Old Walkertown Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, immediately following the funeral home services.
