The following is a letter from Hayes written April 30, 2013:
Dear Family and Friends,
As you all know, I have been in failing health since my strokes. I wanted to take this time to say a few words to all of you. First, I wanted you to know how much you have meant to me over the years. I value each of you and love you. We have shared some great times and created many memories. I wanted all of you to know that I am sure of my salvation and where I will spend eternity. I have made changes in my life to follow Jesus and my hope and prayer for all of you is to know Jesus as your Savior and to know where you will spend eternity as well. It is a gift, given freely, by a loving heavenly Father, for all of those who believe and receive Jesus as their Savior and Lord. I hope each of you, when thinking of me, will think of the memories we have shared and remember me fondly.
My love to all of you, Hayes
