Kernersville- Rev. James Corven Smith, 89, passed away peacefully, February 2, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 14, 1929 in Perquimans County, NC, a small community called Bagley Swamp, to the late Wray Josiah and Carrie Estelle Smith. He was a graduate of UNCG and High Point College, and pastored for 55 years in NC. He taught at Southern Pilgrim College for 10 years, including serving as dean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice Smith. Surviving are; his loving wife, Ruth Surbrook Smith, Many wonderful cousins, second cousins, Wayne and Judy Peabody, and Howard and Cathy Peabody, two nephews, and two great nephews. A funeral service for will be held 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Kernersville Wesleyan Church with Rev. Charles Moses, Rev. Dan Leroy, and Rev. Leon Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 6:45 PM prior to the service in the sanctuary, and also following the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2019 in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Phil Hulen and Rev. Scott Simmons officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Victory Mountain Camp at 3594 Youth Camp Rd. Sophia, NC 27350. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com
