James Ray Dawkins, Jr.

James Ray ""Zedo"" Dawkins, Jr., 89, passed away in Charlotte, NC on July 3, 2017. Jim is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Koslap Dawkins, his mother and father, James Ray, Sr. and Bessie Brown Dawkins. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Adams of Columbia, SC and brother Rev. Charles Dawkins and his wife Betty of Lexington, SC. Zedo, as his grandkids lovingly call him, is remembered by his children, daughter Jo Dawkins of Charlotte, NC, son Michael and his wife Jill of Johns Creek, Georgia, and daughter Janet and her husband Keith Wilkins of Cornelius, NC. He is also blessed with three grandchildren, Bailey Ray Dawkins, son of Michael and Jill, Jordan Ray and Justin Cooper Wilkins, sons of Janet and Keith. In describing our Father, the words came easy. Witty, selfless (family always came first), patriotic (a 2x Army veteran), dedicated (nothing meant more to him than our Mom), a hard worker (41 years as an engineer with the same textile company), brilliant, honest, kind, a gentleman, and the list goes on. Then there is this word: Clemson. Nothing lit up this '52 grad's face more than the sight of Death Valley on a Fall afternoon. The Tigers have a new angel in heaven. ""Go Tigers!"" A funeral service will be held at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 W. Fifth Street in Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday morning, July 8 at 11:00 with Pastor William Trexler and Pastor Charles Dawkins officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow at St. Leo's Catholic Church Columbarium, 335 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations made to Clemson University Forever Fund to support student scholarships. Donations in his memory, and so noted, should be mailed to PO Box 1889, Clemson, SC 29633. We rest easier now knowing our ""salt and pepper"" are reunited - a set again.
