Mr. James Horace Farrar, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. James was one of seven children, born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to the late Mr. Joseph Dodd Farrar and Mrs. Hilda Reamey Farrar.
Mr. Farrar was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he was stationed aboard the USS Ranger and earned the rank of Seaman. Following his honorable discharge, he began a career as a truck driver where he remained until his retirement.
James enjoyed traveling and was an avid fisherman. He loved spending time outdoors; fishing, working in the yard, or enjoying a day at the lake. These were the things that brought him joy. Above all, James deeply loved his family. He was a loving husband, Daddy, Papa, and Great-Papa, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Wanda Walton Farrar; four brothers, Berkley, Tyree, Lacy and Bailey Farrar; and his sister, Edna Farrar.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jill Parnell (Ronald); son, Jimmy L. Farrar (Marie); two grandchildren, Ashley P. Hunter (Blaine) and Lee Farrar; one great-grandson, Beau Hunter and one great-granddaughter on the way, Ansley Hunter; one brother, Joseph Farrar (Patricia); several nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Parklawn Memorial Park with Preacher Sammy Lawson officiating. There will be no formal visitation held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the VFW Post 9010, P.O.Box 601, Clemmons. NC 27012 or to Novant Health Acute Pallative Care, at www.forsyth.supportnovanthealth.org.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Alison Parnell for the care she provided to Mr. Farrar during his final weeks. Her compassion and the love she showed to both James and his family will forever be cherished.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
