James Hawks, Sr.

Mr. James Elwood Hawks, Sr., 76, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at his residence. James was born in Stokes County on April 5, 1942, to Roby Osborne and Mae Ola Bottoms Hawks. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War and retired from Food Lion as a Produce Manager. James was a lifelong farmer and hard worker. He worked diligently to care for and raise his two sons. He enjoyed gardening and was always willing to lend a helping hand. James was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jason Eugene Hawks; and three brothers, Mac Hawks, Eddie Hawks, and Sammy Hawks. Surviving are one son, James Elwood Hawks, Jr. (wife Maria Teresa); two granddaughters, Jenna Hawks and Jaslyn Hawks; three sisters, Kathy Whitaker (husband Lanny), Sharon Alexander (husband Don), and Mary Hubbard; and a special furry companion, Buddy.
