James Harden Hay

James Harden Hay was born in Brownville Junction, Maine on July 9, 1928, to James Loudon Hay and Viola Crowe Hay. He passed away at age 95 on January 16, 2024. Raised in Spencer, North Carolina, Jim served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1954 and was employed by Western Electric for 35 years. In 1992, Jim married Shirley Brewer. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha; his daughter, Lynn; and his sisters, Evelyn, Marty, Jean, Ruth, and Catherine.

Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; son, Jimmy of Winston-Salem; son-in-law, William (Pat) Faggart of Lexington; step-son Rob (Annie) Brewer of Kernersville; step-daughter LeAnne (Jeff) Essick of Winston-Salem; step-son Randall Brewer of Winston-Salem; step-son Richard (Susan) Brewer of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Angela Pickle (Billy), Heather Thomas (Scott), and Michael Faggart, all of Lexington; and many special step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 12:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Chapel.

A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the staff of Trellis Supportive Care for the care and support given to Jim and the family during recent weeks.
