James "Jim" Milo Campbell

James “Jim” Milo Campbell, 99, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was the last born of nine children on April 30,1924 in Jim Thorpe (Carbon County) Pennsylvania to the late John Campbell and Helen Gutman Campbell.

Following high school graduation, Jim enlisted in the Army serving from 1943-1946 in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European Campaigns. After his honorable discharge, he enlisted in the Air Force serving our country once again from 1947-1950.

Jim was later employed at a printing company on Long Island until retiring in 1989. During his retirement years, he lived in St. Petersburg, FL from 2000 until 2008 when he made Winston-Salem his final home, where he loved the mild four seasons of North Carolina.

Jim enjoyed ballroom dancing and was an avid lifetime fan of Notre Dame football. He was also an avid walker and attributed his longevity, almost 100 years old, to the many miles he walked throughout his lifetime, which began with walking to and from grammar school every day.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his eight siblings – Tom, John, Edward, Mary, Agnes, Helen, Rita and Catherine. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Patricia Campbell and Jesse Smith of Fort Worth, TX; his grandson, Alexander Smith of Clifton Park, NY; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Pennsylvania.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Clemmons Village II and the cardiology ICU staff at Forsyth Medical Center.

A private committal service with military honors will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations in Jim’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
