James Leonard King, Sr.

Mr. James Leonard King, Sr. passed away Saturday December 23, 2023, at his home. He was born August 12, 1954, in Forsyth County NC, to Betty Mae King Smith and the late James Fred Ellis. James retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 39 years of service. In his younger years he worked on tobacco farms and was a hardworking man who tried to do so much for so many his entire life. He enjoyed working outdoors, carpentry, hiking on nature trails in the mountains, riding for scenic views, spending time with family, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, His stepfather, Carl Lee Smith, a brother; Chester "Ricky" Lee King, and a nephew Jimmy “JC” Clayton Vernon. James is survived by his loving Wife, Darlene Gay Jones King, two sons; James “Jamie” Leonard King, Jr. (Emily), and Kevin Dale King, a daughter Michelle Lynn King Mabe (Timmy), five grandsons; Ethan Andrew Mosquera, Drake Albert Mabe, Andrew Vance Mabe, Edison Briggs Mabe, Leo James King, and a sister, Tilda Lee Smith Vernon. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2024 Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Rev. Steve Roberson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Flippin Family Cemetery, Covington Road, Stokes County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel.
