James Vernon Lawson, Sr.

Mr. James Vernon Lawson, Sr., 71, of Tobaccoville, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1942 in Forsyth County to Paul Vernon and Alphie Ellis Lawson. Mr. Lawson was employed with Douglas Battery for 30 years. In his early years, he was active in Pop Warner Football, Little League Baseball, and King-Pinnacle Basketball League. He was a race car driver at Bowman Gray Stadium for 10 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Lawson and a grandson, Zachary Heath Newby. Surviving are his wife, Connie Brinegar Lawson; a son, James Vernon Lawson, Jr. and wife Sharon; two daughters, Kimberly Lawson Stevens and husband Thomas, and Kelly Denise Lawson; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a cousin, Jean Blackburn; and three very special friends, Ricky and Margaret Royal, and Sherri Moss. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29 at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 28 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
