James Austin Long

Long Mr. James Austin Long, 90, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Long was born in Forsyth County on March 1, 1923 to Dewey Roscoe and Ollie Fishel Long. He was a member of Advent Moravian Church where he was very active his entire life. Mr. Long was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He retired from R.J. Reynolds with 40 years of loyal service. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 54 years, Rachel M. Long; a son, Stephen Wayne Long; three brothers, E.E., Bill, and Knotty Long. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Cohn of Yadkinville, and Janet Horton and husband Jimmy of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Elliott Long of Kernersville; and two sisters, Louise Pitts and Nancy Myers, both of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted 4:00 pm Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Advent Moravian Church with the Rev. Tim Byerly and Rev. Roger Kimball officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service, Burial will follow in the church graveyard with military rites performed by Clemmons District 11 VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103
