Mr. James (Jim) Robert Martin, also known to many as “Snake”, 88, of Mocksville, passed away peacefully into the presence of his loving Savior on Thursday, February 26, 2026, while under hospice care at Mocksville Senior Living. He was born on January 15, 1938, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Betty Corns and Leak Buel Martin. Snake was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a member of Blaise Baptist Church for over 50 years. In his early years, he did construction work but later retired from RJ Reynolds after 24 years as a mechanic. He enjoyed working with the Baptist Men’s Ministry, the Handyman Ministry at Blaise, Samaritans Purse, and at Puddin Ridge Golf Course. Snake also liked woodworking, going fishing, and playing golf.
In addition to his parents, Snake was preceded in death by three sisters, Sarah, Jacqualine, and Louise; two brothers, L.J. and Lincoln; and his oldest daughter, Teresa Jenkins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Josephine Martin; one sister, Mary Polk; three children, Charlene Dunn (Tracy), Tonya Martin, and Robert Martin (Nadine); seven grandchildren, Sandy, Christopher (Tressie), Melia, Chase, Krista, Julian, and Ethan; seven great grandchildren, Cameron, Gabriel, Jessica, Jaxon, Syler, Zeke, and Bristol.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Mocksville Senior Living as well as Mountain Valley Hospice for the care, love, and support shown to Snake in his final days.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Blaise Baptist Church in Mocksville. The service will take place in the Old Sanctuary. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
