James Clifford McConnell

James 'Jim' Clifford McConnell of Winston-Salem passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013. He was born April 9, 1928 in Boone, NC to Clifford and Ruth Hagaman McConnell. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy, who died in February 2013, and his first wife, Rosemond, who died in 1979. Jim was a 1950 graduate of North Carolina State University and a retired engineer of Lucent Technologies, Inc. He was drafted in 1951 and served briefly in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his brother, Bobby McConnell and wife Mary Lib, son, Bain McConnell and wife Carol, daughter, Lisa McConnell, grandsons, Brian McConnell and Tommy McConnell, stepson, Randy Kiger and wife Donna, step-grandchildren, Michelle Speagle and Tyler Kiger, and step-great-grandson, Charlie Speagle. A funeral service will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3819 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27104, with the Rev. Norm Jones, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to a charity of choice.
