James Gregory "Greg" McKaughn

Mr. James Gregory “Greg” McKaughn, 57, of Lewisville, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Mr. McKaughn was born on February 9th, 1966, to the late Mr. Kenneth Conrad McKaughn and Mrs. Kaye Frances Matthews McKaughn. Greg proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for eleven years where he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. After the Marines, Greg then served seven years in the US Army National Guard where he was also ranked Staff Sergeant. After his time in the Marines and the National Guard, Greg spent more time overseas and in the United States providing private security detail. During his time of faithful service to this country, Greg obtained many medals that showed his loyalty and bravery such as the National Defense service medal; Southwest Asia service medal; Armed forces reserved medal; Global war on terrorism expeditionary medal; Global War on terrorism service medal; Army good conduct medal; Armed forces service medal; Saudi Arabian medal for the liberation of Kuwait; Iraq campaign medal; Korean defense service medal; Kuwait medal for the liberation of Kuwait; Marine Corps good conduct medal; and Army commendation medal. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend, he will truly be missed by all that knew him. Surviving is his mother Kaye Frances Matthews McKaughn; his sisters, Kenzie McKaughn Cook and Tracy Jester Renegar; three nephews Kyle Renegar (Taylor), Mason Cook and Logan Cook; two nieces Brandy Martin (Nick), Ella Grace Cook; two great nephews Briggs Martin and Brody Renegar; and one great niece Macy Renegar. In addition to his father, Greg is preceded in death by his grandparents John Harrison McKaughn, Lorraine Conrad McKaughn, James Matthews and Pauline Hobson Matthews. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or Lewisville Baptist Church, 125 Lewisville-Clemmons Rd., Lewisville, NC 27023. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the McKaughn family.
